Kanchindu Secondary School
Education can only have a lasting effect if the conditions around it are right, and that includes somewhere decent to sleep.

Kanchindu Secondary School is in Sinazongwe District in Zambia Southern Province. The school is run by the United Church of Zambia and is open to children regardless of background or denomination. Since 2017 there has been a secondary section alongside the primary school.
Many children at Kanchindu Secondary School come from villages far away. To attend school regularly, they depend on a place in the boarding house.
The existing girls dormitory was already in use, but there were not enough safe, decent places to sleep. Some of the beds were badly worn, and there simply were not enough of them for the actual need.
With support from our association we were able to fund the beds needed for the girls dormitory. The pupils now have better sleeping and living conditions and a more dignified basis for their school day.
Why this project matters
A safe place to sleep is more than just a bed. It means protection, dignity and a reliable basis for attending school. For girls in particular, a stable boarding place is important so that they can continue their education and gain better prospects in the long run.
The effect is concrete:
- better sleeping conditions for boarding pupils
- more safety and dignity in everyday school life
- better conditions for regular school attendance
- support aimed specifically at girls from remote regions
- lasting strengthening of the whole school community

Together with our partners
The project was carried out together with Christliche Sambiahilfe e.V. and the United Church of Zambia. Christliche Sambiahilfe has been active in Zambia for many years and had already built the girls dormitory at Kanchindu Secondary School.
Working closely with partners on the ground meant the support reached exactly where it was needed: the girls in the boarding house.
